Vatican Council, First
- ; Vatican Council IThis term refers to the ecumenical or general council of the Roman Catholic Church that was convened by Pope Pius IX (1846-1878). Although the council, which met from 1869 to 1870, issued a constitution treating creation, Revelation, and faith, it is generally remembered for its teaching concerning the infallible magisterium of the Roman pontiff.
